‘The David Attenborough effect’ is a trending topic which has led
to a 53% decrease in single use plastic in a study of 3,200 people from the UK and US. Non-profit organisations such as ‘The Ocean Clean-up’ are ‘developing the first feasible method to rid the world’s oceans of plastic’ (please click here if you want to contribute).
This is very positive…but there is still a long way to go:
-
An average City worker can use over 1,000 pieces of single-use plastic per year at work alone. Billions of pieces of single-use plastic contaminate our soil and water every year, taking more than 400 years to decompose.
-
The disruption in our ecosystem is caused by a high carbon dioxide and methane footprint originating from factories, transport, plastic production, cattle farming and landfills.
-
Overfishing and destruction of habitat accounts for the endangerment of species which could lead to further catastrophic consequences for ecosystems and the environment.
Sustainability considers how we live – with the natural world around us, protecting it from destruction. From the environmental standpoint, the changing climate and pollution is caused by lack of sustainable practices – by both consumers and businesses.
We at JDX are very keen to do our bit. Earlier this year, the company introduced a new initiative to focus on social issues to address climate change through education and direct action, in order to minimise the environmental impact of its resource consumption.
We covered a lot of this in an earlier blog, but most recently, we launched ‘Go Green Week’ which kick-started a company-wide conversation about the environmental impact of the western diet. This had a direct impact on the way we cater our events, leading to us providing healthier, more environmentally friendly food options, which is only the beginning.
We are highly impacted by our environment. That is why JDX is committed to continuing our efforts in maintaining a sustainable, environmentally friendly footprint.
